"They will not go quietly,
the dogs who've shared our lives.
In subtle
ways they let us know
their spirit still survives.
Old habits still make us think
we hear a barking at the door.
Or step
back when we drop
a tasty morsel on the floor.
Our feet still go around the place
the food dish used to be,
And,
sometimes, coming home at night,
we miss them terribly.
And although time may bring new friends
and a new food dish to
fill,
That one place in our hearts belongs to them...
and always will."

January 1, 1998 - September 20, 2012

We have a secret, you and I,
That no one else shall know,
For who, but I can see you lie,
Each night in fire glow?
And who but I, can reach my hand
Before we go to bed,
And feel the living warmth of you
And touch your silken head?
And only I walk woodland paths,
And see, ahead of me,
Your small form racing with the wind,
So young again, and free.
And only I can see you swim
In every brook I pass.
And, when I call, no one but I
Can see the bending grass.

Look not where I
was
For I am not there
My spirit is free
I am everywhere
In the
air that you breathe
In the sounds that you hear
Don't cry for me
Mom
My spirit is near
I'll watch for you
From the other
side
I'll be the one running
New friends by my side
Smile at my
memory
Remember in your heart
This isn't the end
It's a brand new
start.
At
Country Critter Sitters, our guests say the nicest things !
From Penny Casey's Family - May 2007

This is a wonderful place for dogs to be -- truly a
home-away-from-home. I was impressed by the attention paid to each dog and
by
the atmosphere of enjoyment and energy. My Newfoundland dog, Penny, had a
wonderful time running and swimming and is probably hoping for a chance to
visit again! It was great to be able to get news of her via the diary.

From Murphy Cameron-Brown's Family -
October 2005
We first heard of Country Critter
Sitters from mutual friends, Basil & Jane Coady. They spoke so
highly of Mary & Cathy that we felt we had to check out their
"doggie resort" by the ocean. We were immediately impressed by
the comfortable surroundings and obvious care for all of their
guests. We have been fortunate to be able to leave Murphy
for
lots of mini vacations, sometimes on very short notice. We
really appreciate the accommodations made for us. The journals
are the best! A really nice touch. Murphy always comes home
relaxed and sleepy...looking forward to his next visit.
Thanks for being there!

- August 2005

Shaq had a blast. He came home
and slept until 10am the next morning. It was great to know
that Shaq had fun and was so well taken care of at your home..
That is what it was like for us, leaving him with friends. Thanks for giving him a better vacation then we had and we had a
great one.

From Scotia Greening's Family - August 2005

I've been meaning to write this for a long time, but I've discovered its hard to put into words the love and affection I have for the Country Critter Sitters. Mary and Cathy have added such love and comfort to both Scotia and I over the past year and a half since her first visit. Whenever I need to trust Scotia's care to those who will love her as much as me and give her more fun than I could, its Mary & Cathy who come to mind. Scotia swims at CCS - she's a Sheltie! Shelties typically don't swim.. That's what a stay at the "Resort" does for your dog - and you. It opens your eyes to all the wonderful experiences you will both have under Mary & Cathy's care and endless love of animals!
Thanks ladies! You mean the world to both me and Scotia. For those of you still not convinced - let me leave you with this thought. Once you go Country Critter Sitters, you never go back!!

From Quarrie's Family - February
2005

When our female Schnauzer died in August at age seven and a
half we were devastated to say the least. Our male Schnauzer,
Quarrie, was worse as he did not understand where she was. They
had never been apart for anything. They were groomed together,
went to the Vets together, slept and ate together etc. He was
doing so poorly we wondered if we wouldn't lose him as well. I
think our little doggy from heaven intervened and saved
Quarrie. Mary and Cathy came into our lives and we have never
looked back. Although Quarrie is still sad it is only when he
is home and lonely and bored. Mary, Cathy, Doofus, Sonny, Mac,
Morgan, Devon, Joe and all the guest dogs have given him a new
lease on life. It has enabled me to leave him for more than an
hour or two and we never worry when we leave him as he is loved
and taken such good care of. Mary and Cathy are exceptional
woman who I am so happy to call friends. The reality is,
Quarrie is taken better care of there than he is at home as his
days are so filled and he is so tired he does not have time to
grieve. How do you thank people for giving you back your dog?

From Jake and Amber's Family - September 2004

Hi Mary and Cathy,
It is so lovely to have Jake and
Amber home. We missed them so very much. Can't believe how much
they have grown. They obviously had a wonderful time with you.
Thanks for all the effort you put in, even their brush was
clean! Of course you can post our email address on your
reference page. No doubt we will see you again soon, as we go
away regularly and we are certain Jake and Amber would love to
come and stay again. We may even come to your beach over the
next few weekends.
Best wishes

From Maggie
Eddy's Family - September 2004

Hello Mary and Cathy.
Gary and I just want to say thanks again for the wonderful
care given to Maggie for the week she was with you. You both
are certainly unique in the service you provide to these
pets that mean so much to their "humans". I was so touched
by the personal diary that you put together for Maggie.
She was tired when she came home but in excellent spirits.
We will look forward to the next visit at Christmas. If
someone is looking for a referral please don't hesitate to
use our name.
Thanks again for everything.

I would like to recommend to
other caring dog owners the pet sitting services provided by
Country Critter Sitters in Seaforth, Halifax County.
I have used their services
and have been pleased with the special care and attention that
my dog, Allie, received while at their country home, which is
located twenty-five miles from downtown Halifax.

From Bailey Wilson-Proudfoot's Family - August 2003

Guest dogs are integrated into
the Taplin home with the family and their pets and receive 24
hour supervised care. There is a large fenced property that allows
the dogs to have off leash privileges as long as they are obedient
and well-socialized. Personal feeding, necessary health care
and guest I.D. tags are provided along with lots of pats and
playtime. The beach hikes are a big hit with most dogs.
